The Golden Spike Days Festival attracts over 40,000 people. You can expect live entertainment, special events and activities for all ages. The festival is held at Rocky Point Park around Canada Day – June 28 – July 1. Here are five reasons to attend:
1. It’s a Firm Fan Favourite
The Golden Spike Days Festival is not only one of the longest running family events in British Columbia, but it has also been named to the Tri-City News’ A-List as ‘Favourite Community Event’ for multiple years running now.
2. See Barney Bentall & the Legendary Hearts Live
Barney Bentall was part of the emerging Vancouver new wave music scene of the early 1980s. Following this, he formed the Legendary Hearts in 1987, and his band, Bandon Wolf, released two EPs. The band has worked with famous producers and released a number of hit singles. See them live at the Golden Spike Days Festival!
Food is a huge part of the festival experience and there will be a wide array of sustainable and ethical food options. Experience the sweet spot between shaved ice and ice-cream with a snow cloud, handcrafted Sicilian Cannoli, baked potatoes and toppings from the Russet Potato Shack, kettle corn and a range of other taste sensations.
4. New Events
The Paw Squad Canine Sports Club will be hosting two dog agility shows and meet and greets each day. There will also be three days of car shows featuring demolition derby cars, race cars, mud trucks and kids’ midget race cars.
5. Activities for Kids
There will also be a spring-free trampoline, boat building activities (parental supervision is required) and a swing ride and bubble ball!
After a fun day at the Golden Spike Days Festival, be sure to make a stop at Church’s Chicken for the best fried chicken in Vancouver!
