- Vancouver Santa Claus Parade (1 December)
Get into the festive spirit with the annual Santa Clause parade in downtown Vancouver. Join in the fun as the parade of festive floats travel by you with an accompaniment of sparkly dancers, mischievous elves and Mr. Claus himself. Monetary and non-perishable food donations are very welcome and will be collected during the parade by marked officials. The beneficiaries for this year’s parade are the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and the CKNW Orphan’s Fund.
- Make it! Holiday Show (December 11 to 15)
This annual craft fair hosts a collection of over 250 artisan stands, ensuring that you’ll get all your Christmas shopping done in one go! You’ll find a grand selection of handmade gifts including jewellery, décor, art, sweets, candles, toys and everything in between. Food trucks and a beer tent will keep you going when all the shopping gets exhausting.
- The Nutcracker by Goh Ballet (20 to 22 December)
For a limited number of shows, Goh Ballet, accompanied by the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, will be performing the Christmas classic, the Nutcracker. Filled with elaborate costumes, enchanting performers and a mesmerizing score, this fable is relived in all its glory at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre.
- Robson Square Ice Skating (Early December to February 2020)
Grab your skates and get ready for some frosty fun! The entrance of the Vancouver Art Gallery transforms into an ice rink where families can skate to their heart’s content. Warm up with some delicious hot chocolate and enjoy the outdoors with your entire family. Entrance is free if you bring your own skates. Skates can also be rented for a small fee.
- Polar Express (November 23, 24 & 30 and December 1, 7, 8, 14 & 15)
If you feel like heading out of Vancouver, the Polar Express is the West Coast Railway Heritage Park’s train that takes passengers on a magical adventure. Enjoy hot chocolate and cookies with Santa, Mrs. Claus and a host of costumed characters on your ride and explore the park when the train pulls back into the station. Booking early is definitely recommended!
- Bah Humbug! (5 to 21 December)
Join musician Jim Byrnes as he transforms into Ebenezer Scrooge at the Fei & Milton Wong Experimental Theatre for this 10th and final year of the festive tradition. This family-friendly tale is retold with a modern spin, highlighting current-day social issues unique to Vancouver. Proceeds from the show will go to the annual Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival.
